I’ve listened to a lot of music throughout the years. Some I really enjoy, some I respect. Swimming through the gnarly sea of music (My high school lunch table), I’ve landed upon a peculiar island where music is “remembered“, just slightly wrong.
or entirely in some cases.
Liminal-Spaces are the areas in-between the past and the future, like a mall that doesn’t exist anymore. It’s interesting to think of a time it was still around, imagine how it may have been or remember how it may have been. Either or, it’s not remembered as it was. Liminal-Spaces are more than vacant rooms filled with air, they’re filled with memories too.
Today I want to touch upon a few of my favorite Liminal Tracks ranging from early Instupendo to the recent BACKROOMS movie (Which I’ve seen 4 times in theatres, besting the original Lego Movie).
As per the nature of this blog, I’m starting with the most niche music I know.

The producer, Cyberdystnt, invites you to a late night at the office with a city-pop vibe accompanied by all the essentials of the genre: Slow beats, gentle piano taps, breezy woodwinds, and powerful Jazz. The office has never sounded better. It’s a 13-track LP that will be sure to soothe you.
Track 6, “Euphoria“, is a favorite of mine. It’s classy, jazzy, and feels like what a break room would smell like. I featured it on my Counterstrike: Source map titled the Coneseum. A museum dedicated to my friends and I’s artwork, you can find it on my gamebanana. Though, you’re going to have to enable adult content as it features nudity.
Our next composer, Instupendo, who’s also featured in the Coneseum; has changed my life. I mean like, Six Forty-Seven is only one of the most iconic songs ever in this niche. Going as far as to be featured in the trailers for Kane Pixel’s BACKROOMS movie. But Instupendo is an artist with a massive discography and if you’re in this niche like I am, then you’re aware of Comfort Chain.
But how about boy? Falling? or Clementine?
Clementine in particular feels really dreamlike, and like a dream, the melody continues to expand and change. Alternating beats from 1/8th to 1/2 to 1/4th as the piano, drums, and synths add new elements per beat. It’s a heavily layered track that will bring the dream to you.
Going further into the subject of dreams, fuzzymoon is a small musician on YouTube with about 83 subscribers. His last EP, forget about me was released December of last year. However, the EP of the day is titled simply
Liminal
It’s a 4-track EP that immerses you in a melancholic Christmas vibe, a powerful setting for liminal spaces; something even Kane Pixels touches upon in his film. In the case of fuzzymoon, I really wish I could describe to you the aura of his compositions. It’s so unbelievably abstract, he nails the feelings of fading memories. “First Kiss” opens the album with a somber experience of romance which is furthered by the third track, “minecraft”. It’s close enough to an early C418 song but just not quite and it’s really breathtaking.
This next part of the blog is unscripted, just like the last. So, I’m going to roughly transition into the Backrooms movie because I have no proper scheme. I loved this movie from start to finish, the psychology of it’s characters are so intriguing to me. The OST composed by Kane Pixels deals a heavy hand in setting the mood. Handprint is a great introduction to Mary, reflective of the bittersweet emotions she carries about the time with her mother.
The previously discussed Christmas Vibe is present in this movie’s Christmas Room where a music box version of José Feliciano’s “Feliz Navidad” plays, a song I reckon several Floridians are well acquainted with. Utilizing such an iconic song in a horror film of this kind is great because it’s not a song that’s getting any younger, it brings a certain emotion to the table.
And of course, I can’t round this out without talking about “Still-Life“. It’s a song that has been getting remixed left & right, yesterday I found a Roblox Sound font version that I really enjoyed. This song is absolutely crushing; it is the epitome of misremembered music, stuff that doesn’t exist anymore. Whenever it plays in the movie, it’s always in the most deranged locations like a certain den.
If you haven’t watched the movie yet, I highly recommend it.
